Artworks to Host Artist Talk with Freda Williams
The mind of an artist is a truly magnificent thing. There is a certain beauty in leaving a piece of art up to interpretation, letting our minds wander as we ponder what exactly the artist was thinking and feeling at the time of the art’s inception. When we have the opportunity to hear more about our favorite works of art directly from the creator, however, we are offered a richer, more intimate understand of the intentions behind these masterful creations. It’s not every day that we have the opportunity to connect to the artist, leaving us left to guess what was behind the work now standing before us. But thanks to the folks at Artworks Trenton, there’s no need for guesswork at their latest engaging exhibit.
On Saturday, February 24th, Artworks Trenton will be hosting an Artist Talk with the remarkable Freda Williams. This conversation will kick off at 1pm at the Artworks campus, located in Downtown Trenton at 19 Everett Alley, Trenton, NJ 08611. If you do plan on attending, there is plenty of free parking available to guests directly outside the building. Throughout the afternoon, guests will have the opportunity to hear from Freda Williams regarding her process, recently works of art, and how her creations have evolved throughout the course of her career. Guests will also have the opportunity to hear more regarding Ms. William’s influences, as well as the stories which have shaped her prolific body of work.
This conversation is hosted in celebration of one of Artworks Trenton’s latest exhibits, “Freda Williams: A Retrospective”. For a limited time, guests of Artworks Trenton can enjoy a walkthrough of Ms. Williams’ rich career. From her early works to her current creations, this exhibit highlights and celebrates the evolution her artwork has undergone over the years. A vibrant world of depth, color, and texture, her creations are certain to leave any viewer feeling invigorated and inspired.
Mabel “Freda” Williams, a North Carolina native and resident of the Trenton area for over 70 years, has been an avid artist since the age of 10. Her extensive body of work transcends a number of mediums, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, and more. She is known to work on a number of canvases, including wood, glass, and
burlap fabric. Her work is distinguished by a vivid use of color and imagery, often rooted in her own cherished memories of days gone by.
As a self-taught professional artist, what began as an outlet and an escape from the demands of day to day life rapidly transformed into a full-blown exploration of creativity. Ms. Williams has exhibited in a number of renowned exhibits, including he Mercer County Senior Juried Art Show, Lawrenceville and Ewing Public Libraries, the Ewing Township Arts Commission, the Hopewell Valley Community Bank, Trinity United Methodist Church, Artworks: Trenton’s Downtown Visual Art Center, US Federal District Court, Burlington County Courthouse, West Windsor Juried Art Show, Hopewell Valley Vineyards- Summer Threads Exhibit, and Ellarslie Open #40, The Trenton City Museum.
