Trenton City Museum Celebrates Black History Through Storytelling

Storytelling is the driver behind all of recorded history. Long before mankind had access to the types of recording technologies we have today, humanity has shared its greatest knowledge and achievements through the art of storytelling. From the oral histories of our ancestors to great works of art, written word, and more, the stories we share with one another set the stage for the future our civilizations will build. As we get ready to kick off Black History Month, centering the stories and lived experiences of the Black community remains an integral avenue to connecting our communities and elevating Black voices. And as we get ready to usher in Black History Month for 2024, the Trenton City Museum has come prepared with a remarkable presentation to ring in the occasion.

On Sunday, February 4th, the Trenton City Museum will be kicking off their Black History Month celebrations with an enlightening afternoon of discussion, “Celebrate Black History Through Storytelling”. The event will begin at 4pm at the Trenton City Museum, which is located at the core of Cadwalader Park at 299 Parkside Ave., Trenton, NJ 08606. There is no cost of admission to attend, so all are welcome to come out and be a part of the conversation. That said, while there is no cost to attend, donations are appreciated so that the Trenton City Museum can continue to offer these engaging educational opportunities for years to come.  If you are unable to make it out to the event but are still interested in supporting the museum, you can find instructions to make your donation on the Trenton City Museum website, linked here: Donate – TCM.

The featured performers for the evening’s event include:

  • Jamil Long, storyteller and headliner for the evening
  • Musszett the poetess
  • Victoria Smalls, storytelling through dance
  • Diane Ciccone, author and Trenton Museum Society trustee

This lineup promises to present a powerful afternoon of poetry, connection, and masterful storytelling, marking a moving beginning to this month’s Black History Month celebrations. While the event is free to attend, advanced registration is required. If you are planning on attending, please sign up as soon as possible by submitting the registration form on SignUp Genius, linked here: Celebrate Black History Through Storytelling – RSVP. The conversation will be kicking off before you know it, so be sure to sign up as soon as possible in order to secure your spot.
