The festivities will be held at the New Jersey State Museum’s campus, located in the heart of Downtown Trenton at 205 W State St, Trenton, NJ 08608. The theme for this month, “Planetarium/Lunar Adventure” invites the little learner in your family to take flight as they learn about the wonders of the cosmos. For the upcoming installment, families can either choose from a 9:45am slot or an 11:00am slot. Each session will be approximately 45 minutes and will include a number of activities throughout the museum. Please do note that regardless of which window you choose, both the 9:45am and 11:00am sessions will be invited to attend a Planetarium show at 10:00am.
If you are interested in attending, please register as soon as possible, as slots are certain to fill up fast! You can sign up to participate by completing the following registration form: Small Explorers Registration. If you plan on attending January’s event, please do be aware that all registrations must be received by 10:00am on the Friday prior to the event to assure that museum staff can anticipate your arrival. January’s theme, “Planetarium/Lunar Adventure”, welcomes your small explorer to blast off to the galaxy without ever having to leave the New Jersey State Museum. The day’s festivities will kick off a planetarium showing of Moon, inviting your child to venture into space like never before. Following the showing, participating pupils will enjoy a reading of Love you to the Moon and Back by Amelia Hepworth and Tim Warnes. Throughout the morning, kiddos will have the chance learn more about the moon through the Planetarium programming and other exciting hands-on activities. From the phases of the moon to the texture of its surface, this event is certain to be a day of galactic proportions.
The Small Explorers initiative, sponsored by the PNC Grow Up Great grant, invites families from the Trenton region to explore all the New Jersey State Museum has to offer for its youngest guests. The events, which take place on the second Saturday of each month, offers children a chance to learn while parents can connect with peers of their own. Families are encouraged to enroll for a full year of programming to have the opportunity to build knowledge, relationship, and skills.
