Join the NJSM for “Girl Scouts: See the World as a Scientist”

Attention all parents and guardians of Girl Scouts! Has your child expressed an interest in science? Whether your child dreams of becoming a high-flying astronaut or discovering the next great technological innovation, every young girl has the potential to be the next STEM superstar. As a male-dominated field, women have fought tirelessly for representation in the sciences. Now, as we get ready to pass the torch to the next generation of scientists, we can take heart to know that young girls can become anything they set their minds to. To explore the world of science and all the opportunities it brings, you and the Girl Scout in your life are invited to the New Jersey State Museum for their upcoming celebration, “Girl Scouts: See the World as a Scientist.”

The upcoming event will be held on Saturday, November 18th, at the New Jersey State Museum’s campus, located at 205 W State St, Trenton, NJ 08608. This event marks the official return of the NJSM’s Scouting Days, an opportunity for scouting troops throughout the state to come to Trenton for a science-filled day focusing on space, citizen science, and STEM careers. If the Scout in your life is ready to set off on a STEM adventure, please register in advance at the link provided here: Register – Scouting Days. Upon registration, all guests will receive a gift bag at the museum upon arrival. Participating scouts will also be eligible to receive their Space Explorer, Citizen Scientist, and STEM Careers badges.

The upcoming festivities are appropriate for Girl Scouts in ages K-8, with age-appropriate activities planned for each scouting level. Groups will be broken up into groups of Daisies/Brownies and Juniors/Cadettes and taken on a guided journey through the NJSM. And if you’re a troop leader, don’t worry! There’s plenty of pre-planned fun for the museum’s grownup visitors.

For the day’s youngest visitors, the fun will begin at 10 a.m. with an age-appropriate Planetarium show. Afterward, guests will continue with the citizen science workshop at 11 a.m., followed by an hour break for lunch, and finishing with career talks at 1 p.m. For Junior and Cadette troops, their day will start at 11 a.m. with a Planetarium show, followed by career talks at noon. Students will then break for an hour’s lunch and finish with the citizen science workshop at 2 p.m. All troops are also invited to stay for a 4  p.m. talk in the Planetarium, where guests will have the opportunity to enjoy an exciting discussion with a climate scientist from Princeton!
