Trenton City Museum Announces Youth Tile Making Workshop

A trip to the museum is an exciting enough day for any family. But what if you had the chance to make a work of art of your own? If the youth in your life are looking to get creative, the Trenton City Museum has you covered with back-to-back Saturdays of tile-making fun.

On Saturday, October 14th, the Trenton City Museum will be hosting the first installment of its two-part youth tile making class. The festivities will begin at 10am at the Ellarslie Mansion, located at 299 Parkside Ave., Trenton, NJ 08606. This event is completely free to attend in celebration of the Trenton Museum Society’s 50th anniversary. Please note, however, that space is limited to 15 youth and spots will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. If you do plan on attending, please be sure to register as soon as possible by clicking here: Register – TCM.

During part one of this two-part event, participants will have the opportunity to dive into the history of Trent Tiles and begin working on a 3D tile to take home. Participating youth will also have the chance to have an up-close encounter with original Trent tiles and the molds that were used to create them many years ago. After getting inspired by some Trent tiles of yesterday, students will be provided with air-dry clay and can begin getting to work on a masterpiece of their own making.

During part two of the workshop, which will take place on October 21st from 10am to 12pm, participants will have a chance to paint and decorate their tiles. After these works of art have been completed, you’ll be able to take the tile home and enjoy it in the months and years to come. A wonderful opportunity for the youth in your life, this event empowers participants to get creative, improve their dexterity skills, and learn about Trenton history along every step of the journey.

This event is presented by the Trenton City Museum, a destination for arts and culture for Trentonians of all ages. In addition to hands-on education, the Trenton City Museum also boasts an extensive collection of artifacts and artworks related to Trenton rich history.
