Register Now for October’s Small Explorers at the NJSM
Attention all parents or guardians of little learners! If you’re looking for a fun and free way to spend your Saturday morning, the New Jersey State Museum’s Small Explorers program is the perfect way to kick off your weekend.
On Saturday, October 14, Small Explorers will return to the NJSM for their first season session, “Museum Adventures.” This once-a-month early learning program invites young visitors ages 0-5 to explore the New Jersey State Museum and enjoy hands-on education on many exciting topics, such as science, art, and history. Three slots are available: 9:45 a.m., 11:00 a.m., or 12:15 p.m. While the event is free to attend, advanced registration is required. Spaces are open on a first-come, first-served basis, but be sure to sign up early, as the program fills up quickly! If you plan on attending, please email your name, number of participating children, and desired time slot to NJSMFsmallexplorers@gmail.com no later than noon on October 13.
This month’s “Museum Adventures” session will explore all the ins and outs of an exciting day at the museum. The day’s activities will start with reading “The Museum” by Susan Verde, illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds. After storytime has concluded, visitors will have a chance to explore the shapes, colors, and feelings that a walk through an art gallery provides. Children will also have the opportunity to apply these lessons and engage with the world around them through several hands-on activities, including building with different shape blocks, finding the colors hidden throughout the museum, making your piece of art, and finding the words to express how that piece of art makes you feel. An inspirational morning of community and creation, your little one will leave counting down the days until their next trip to the museum!
This event is brought to you by the minds behind the New Jersey State Museum, a destination for arts, culture, and history for learners of all ages. The NJSM offers an extensive collection, with thousands of artifacts on-site for visitors to enjoy and explore. In addition to engaging exhibits, the New Jersey State Museum also offers several educational and community events for young and old guests, inviting all to engage in educational fun. From a day under the stars in the museum’s Planetarium to an up-close encounter with fossils, folklore, and more, you will be surprised at what you find in the NJSM. If you’d like to read more about the museum and upcoming events, please visit their website here: NJSM – Home.
