Trenton River Days Happening This Weekend

If you’re looking to spend your day along the Delaware, you’re in luck: River Days is officially returning to the Capital City!

This Saturday, September 16th, you are invited to the banks of the Delaware River for the 2023 installment of Trenton’s River Days. This event invites residents of all ages to enjoy games, activities, and educational demonstrations, all in celebration of one of our community’s greatest natural resources. This fun and free event will take place at South Riverwalk Park, located at John Fitch Way, Trenton, NJ 08611. Trenton River Days is a partnership of The Watershed Institute, Mercer County Park Commission, Tulpehaking Nature Center, Friends for the Abbott Marshlands, The Alliance for Watershed Education of the Delaware River, Mercer County, ArtWorks, and the City of Trenton.

Festivities for the day will begin at 11 am and the fun will continue through 3 pm. Over the course of the afternoon, guests will have access to a number of exciting activities and opportunities, including food trucks, canoe and boat rides, educational games and exhibits, fly fishing demos, crafts, and hayrides. There will also be on-site entertainment courtesy of Sprout U School of the Arts, Inner Flight, Capital Harmony Works, and Isles’ T-Recs. Guests will also have the opportunity to connect with a number of educational resources, offering insights into how each of us can help to better steward the river which gives our community so much.

In offering this event, the River Days organizers hope to cultivate a better understanding of the Delaware and what it means for our community’s residents. Guests will have the opportunity to get an up-close encounter with some of the creatures of the Delaware, as the Watershed staff will have large tanks where you can explore the various fish species local to our waterways. Guests will also have the opportunity to explore the water quality of our local waterways, as well as gain insights into how this data is gathered and interpreted.

The Delaware River is of tremendous importance to our community, providing drinking water to thousands all throughout the region. Spanning four states and dozens of towns, the impact this waterway has on New Jersey and beyond cannot be overstated. In addition to the water we use to drink, bathe, and live, the Delaware provides us with natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and a fascinating ecosystem teeming with life. As we continue to steward the well-being of the river for the next generation, events like River Days are critical in educating the public on the importance of this resource.

Don’t miss your chance to go with the flow of the Delaware, be sure to mark your calendars today!
