Although it’s hard to believe, the month of August is already well on its way to coming to a close. With the dog days of summer now in full swing, residents all throughout the community are looking for a way to spend those last few weeks of the season. There’s nothing quite like Friday in the summertime, when the weekend roles around and invites us to take a respite from our busy lives and enjoy some time in the warm summer breeze. If you aren’t sure how to kick off the final weekend of August, the Trenton City Museum has you covered with their latest installment of their beloved event series, Freedom Fridays.
If it’s the last Friday of the month, you already know what that means: Freedom Fridays is back for another exciting installment! This month’s event will begin at 7pm on August 25th at the Trenton City Museum, located at 299 Parkside Ave., Trenton, NJ 08606. These events invite creatives of all kinds to the Capital City to hit the stage and share their art with an enthusiastic group of supporters. In addition to open mic performances spanning all genres and mediums, Freedom Fridays also highlights a featured host and performer each month. For the month of August, the festivities will be emceed by Todd Evans, while the featured performer will be the legendary Alma Day.
Ms. Day will be performing “The Ms. Molly Chronicles”, a character created by iconic Trenton playwright, Don Evans. In addition to these stellar performances, guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy light refreshments which will be provided throughout the evening. If you plan on attending, the cost for admission is $5 per person. For the price of your average cup of coffee, you’ll now have the opportunity to hear from some of the region’s most gifted poets, artists, and performers.
Once the performances come to a close, there is plenty more for you to explore in the halls of the Ellarslie Mansion. As the only museum dedicated to Trenton and its cultural past, there are plenty of local artifacts and artworks that you’ll only find on display at the Trenton City Museum. Run by the Trenton Museum Society, which is now celebrating its 50th year, you’d be hard pressed to a crew more committed to preserving and uplifting the rich history of the Capital City. In addition to monthly installments of Freedom Fridays, the Trenton City Museum also hosts a number of educational events to get the community involved.
