One such tradition which has become an iconic summer event in the Capital City is National Night Out, an event which brings members of the Trenton Police Department and city residents together for an evening of fun and fellowship. If you want to be a part of this year’s fun, keep reading for more details on one of the biggest celebrations of the summer.
With the month of August approaching, that can only mean one thing: National Night Out is almost here! Residents of the City of Trenton are invited to celebrate on Tuesday, August 1st from 5pm to 9pm at Cadwalader Park, located at 36 Parkside Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. National Night Out empowers members of the community to enjoy a lighthearted evening of fun alongside the dedicated men and women of the Trenton Police Department. As part of a nationwide initiative, National Night Out hopes to help forge meaningful community-police partnerships in cities and communities all throughout the country.
As this is a family-friendly event, guests of all ages are invited to be a part of the fun. Over the course of the evening, attendees can look forward to enjoying a variety of activities and resources that will help bring the community together in a positive way. By hosting this event, the Trenton Police Department and other police departments throughout the nation hope to encourage and foster safer neighborhoods, all the while helping to cultivate genuine camaraderie and a sense of community for both citizens and police alike.
The National Night Out campaign originally started in 1984, 40 years ago. In the campaign’s first year, they boasted involvement from 2.5 million individuals across 400 communities in 23 states. Since then, neighborhoods throughout America have celebrated the occasion with cookouts, parades, festivals, and more. Far more than just a night on the town, however, National Night Out plays a fundamental role in establishing a sense of trust between police and the communities they serve. At a time when media narratives and cultural conversations have sowed seeds of mistrust in many communities, events like these negate stigma and helps to break down the walls often surrounding the men and women in blue. Although families may have had stressful encounters with law enforcement in the past, events like these remind us our local police department is first and foremost here to lend a helping hand to neighbors in need.
Truly more than just a night on the town, if you’re looking for connection and community this summer, this nationwide celebration is certain to be your number #1 destination.
