NJ State Museum To Host Summer Block Party
We’re well into the dog days of summer, and the fun is heating up right alongside the weather. Every day, the New Jersey State Museum (NJSM) opens its doors to visitors all throughout the Garden State, inviting families to explore art, history, science, anthropology, and more. Now, the NJSM is bringing the excitement outdoors for an all-ages block party.
On Saturday, July 29th, you and your family are invited to the New Jersey State Museum for a summer block party. The party’s theme, “Art in the City”, invites creatives of all ages to enjoy an evening in the community, get creative, and learn all about the arts in the Capital City. The event will kick off at 4pm at the NJSM campus, located at 205 W State St, Trenton, NJ 08608. Guests are invited to bring a picnic, set up camp on the museum’s beautiful front lawn, and take advantage of a number of fun and free activities. Some of the fun that guests can look forward to includes:
- Pointillism and Pixels
- Hidden Art
- Build Your Own Sculpture
- Mixed Media Art
- Nature Screen Printing
- Make Your Own Aurora Borealis
- Solar Observing
In addition to these engaging hands-on activities, guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy a free show in the New Jersey State Museum’s state of the art Planetarium. The museum will be showing a free show at 6pm and 7pm, and free tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis. The featured Planetarium shows include:
- Touch the Stars (6pm): “Touch the Stars” features the robotic spacecraft used in the exploration of our solar system. Guests will have the opportunity to dive into the history of NASA’s probes, orbiters, and landers that have provided us with key insights into our Solar System and what lies beyond. You will be transported to planets and distant stars, riding alongside robotic explorers for a voyage you’ll never forget.
- Exo: Are We Alone? (7pm): For fans and followers of extraterrestrial life, you won’t want to miss this exciting presentation. “Exo: Are We Alone?” explores the exoplanets outside of our Solar System, as well as how these planets inform us on our own planet, its origins, and life on Earth. Take a deep dive as the presentation explores many of the fascinating discoveries that lie just beyond the horizon.
All remaining activities will be available from 4pm-8pm. In the instance of rain or inclement weather, activities will continue inside of the museum.
This event is a wonderful way to get acquainted with all the amazing things the New Jersey State Museum has to offer behind its doors. Step through the threshold and you will find a world of knowledge right at your fingertips.
