Get Hooked on Book Club at the Trenton Public Library

With summer in full swing, there’s no better time to get out, enjoy the weather, and kick back with a great read. If you’re having difficulty figuring out your next literary selection, the Trenton Public Library has you covered with a fantastic monthly find as part of their community Book Club.

Whether you’re an avid bookworm or just looking to make new friends, Book Club is a fantastic opportunity to dive deep into literature and engage in meaningful discussion with like-minded peers. Once a month, the Trenton Public Library invites residents of the Capital City together for an afternoon of curiosity and conversation. This month’s discussion will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, July 25th, in the Trenton Public Library’s Reading Room. The Trenton Public Library is at 120 Academy St., Trenton, NJ 08608.

This month’s selection is “The Killer Angels” by Michael Shaara, a harrowing tale of the lives and legacies of the Battle of Gettysburg. Although the Battle of Gettysburg is something we’ve all become acquainted with through our historical texts, “The Killer Angels” offers readers a more human approach to this famed battle. Shaara’s novel, originally published in 1974, has received worldwide acclaim, even the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1975. Although the story is fictionalized, the subject matter deals with the all-too-real Battle of Gettysburg, which had profound implications for the fate of our nation. The tale follows the battle from the perspective of figures from the Confederacy and the Union, offering a unique perspective on this consequential moment.

In addition to the library’s monthly Book Club with pre-selected novels, the Trenton Public Library hosts a young adult “Bring Your Book Club.” The BYOBook Club meets every other Friday from 2 pm to 3 pm, with the next meeting coming up on Friday, July 28th. Rather than your typical book club where everyone reads the same selections, the Bring Your Book model puts you in charge of your next great read. Young adults are welcome to read their chosen pieces at their own pace, play games with other club members, and connect and share with other community members. The Trenton Public Library has a vast collection of books, so you should have no problem finding a great pick for the next club meeting!

All this and more can be looked forward to during a fun summer at the Trenton Public Library. To learn more about club meetings and other upcoming events, please visit the library’s calendar online here: Events – TPL. If you have any questions before attending, please get in touch with the library at (609) 392-7188 or gref@trentonlib.org for additional details. There’s a world of literature to get lost in this summer, so mark your calendars today.
