For over 32 years, the Mill Hill Garden Tour has been a special event for garden gurus, architecture buffs, and history enthusiasts alike. The homes in this neighborhood have a distinct character and are genuinely one of the great gems of the Capital City. This historic district was one of Trenton’s first communities, named after the industrial mill constructed in 1679. As Trenton continued to ebb and flow over the years, Mill Hill experienced much of the same industrialization and eventual decline. Finally, mill Hill began to turn a corner in the 1980s when concerted redevelopment efforts sought to improve and uplift the region. Since then, Mill Hill has been home to countless restored properties, community events, and historic preservation that continue making Trenton great.
The Old Mill Hill Society hosts this tour alongside the community members and residents of the Mill Hill neighborhood. The Old Mill Hill Society has played an integral role in restoration efforts, and the organization is actively involved in maintaining and continuing historic preservation efforts throughout the community. All funds raised by the tour help support preservation grants that assist homeowners in maintaining the Trenton Landmarks Commission for Historic Preservation Standards that have shaped the community into the neighborhood it is today. As one of Trenton’s historic neighborhoods, the Mill Hill Garden Tour is a chance to get behind the curtain of some of Trenton’s most charming homes.
