Be a Part of Trenton’s Our Streets Initiative

Whether you’re a pedestrian, a biker, or have your way of rolling around town, we all share the need for safe, navigable streets in our community. As members of the Trenton community, we owe it to one another to make getting around town a better experience for all our residents. Inspired by this need, the City of Trenton and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission have come together to create the “Our Streets: A Trenton Bike Plan for All” initiative. However, they can’t bring this vision to life without your help.

On Sunday, May 7th, residents of Trenton are invited to provide feedback on the draft of the Our Streets bike plan. This event will be held from 1 to 3 pm at the Samuel Naples Community Center at 611 Chestnut Avenue, Trenton, NJ 08611. In addition to providing your feedback, guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of perks, including free food and Mister Softee ice cream, a free bike tune-up courtesy of Trenton Cycling Revolution, the chance to enter bike giveaways and grocery store gift cards, participate in family-friend arts activities courtesy of Artworks Trenton, and more. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about Trenton Vision Zero and the Trento Trails Plan.

If you’re interested in attending, you can RSVP online here: RSVP – Trenton Bike Plan. Your participation is critical, as this essential plan needs input from as many of our residents as possible to ensure that it meets the community’s needs. Please feel free to bring your family, neighbors, or anyone interested in shaping the future of commuting in and around our city. To help make this event accessible to more community members, Spanish translation will be provided by the Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund (LALDEF).

The Trenton Bike Plan is a vision for Trenton as an entirely walkable and bikeable community. As home to over 34,000 residents, roughly 30% of whom do not own a car, it is critical that all of our city’s populous members feel confident and safe when making their way around Trenton. Therefore, the plan proposes several improvements to Trenton’s current layout, including additional bike lanes and design changes to ensure our streets are safe for walkers, bikers, skaters, scooters, and drivers. This has been a long-fought effort, and every day, the City of Trenton and its collaborators get closer to making this vision a reality.

Whether you skate to get to and from work, walk and run around town for fun, or utilize a bike to run your day-to-day errands, every Trentonian deserves a safe, comfortable commute. If you share this vision and want to be a part of meaningfully shaping Trenton’s future, you and your family are encouraged to attend. Also, if you’d like to read more about the Our Streets bike plan and learn more about the exciting changes planned for our city, please visit their website here: Home – Our Streets. A better Trenton will take us all, so RSVP today and make your voice heard!
