Trenton Transformers Summer Program Applications Now Open
The school year is slowly drawing to a close, and although time in the classroom may be taking a pause, that doesn’t mean that learning has to. Although summer break is a fantastic time for students to kick back and unwind, parents often struggle to bridge the educational gap between school years, resulting in the “summer slump.” However, through intentional summer programming, children can have a fun-filled summer while staying sharp with all they learned the past year.
The Trenton Transformers summer program, presented by Trenton Public Schools, is a beautiful opportunity for students entering 1st through 6th grade to stay engaged during the summer. Throughout the program, students can cover critical subject areas such as English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science. In addition, students will also be allowed to learn a new language through the program. Although learning will take place, this certainly isn’t the average school day – to keep this program exciting for its participants, students will have the chance to participate in fun projects and field trips related to the studies at hand.
Sessions for the Trenton Transformers program will begin on July 6th and end on August 3rd. The program will be held Tuesdays through Thursdays, starting at 9 am and concluding at 1 pm. During the program, students will be provided with breakfast and a snack. The program is first come, first-served, so do not delay submitting your application. If you wish to enroll your child, applications are available here: Apply – Trenton Transformers. In addition to online registration, in-person enrollment will be open at the Trenton Board of Education on May 3rd and 4th from 4-6 pm. The deadline to register is Friday, May 19th.
Summer learning is critically vital for children still in their school years. The “summer slide,” a phenomenon researchers have been documenting for decades, occurs when students go extended periods without academic engagement during summer vacation. As a result, student achievement levels can drop up to one month’s worth of school learning and experience declines in math and reading levels. Research also notes that the higher a student’s grade level, the more dramatic the loss. By offering summer learning programs, students are better equipped to tackle the new school year and retain the hard-earned knowledge they’d gained the previous year.
This program is an excellent opportunity for students to stay academically active, connect with other children their age, and enjoy a summer of learning and fun in the Capital City. Space is limited, so if you are interested in signing up for your child, please register as soon as possible. If you have any questions before getting started, please get in touch with 609-656-4900 for additional details. Summer is about to kick off, but that doesn’t mean the summer slide has to – secure your spot today!
