Get Hooked on Fishing in the Capital City
We’re reeling excited because now you can learn to fish right here in the Capital City!
On Saturday, April 29th, the City of Trenton and the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife will host “Get Hooked on Fishing.” This fantastic family event will be held from 12:00-3:00 pm at the North Clinton Recreation Center at 454 N. Clinton Avenue, Trenton, NJ 08638. This event is entirely free, although advanced registration is required. Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you are interested in attending, RSVP here: RSVP – Hooked on Fishing. Children of all ages are invited to participate, but a parent or guardian must accompany them. Please also be prepared to attend with protective eyewear. Lunch will be provided.
During this exciting afternoon of education, attendees will learn about the ins and outs of fishing, including:
- Fostering a lifelong long of fishing for every member of the family
- Understanding the various kinds of rods and reels for freshwater angling
- Learn the difference between live bait and lures
- Demonstrate and practice casting
- Understanding fishing regulations and demonstrating where additional resources can be found
- Learn more about the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, as well as the role they play in freshwater fishing.
Although fishing is a fun activity in and of itself, did you know that it can also have some profound health benefits? The NJ Division on Fish and Wildlife (NJFW) hopes this event will introduce the next generation of Trentonians to the wonderful world of fishing. NJFW remains committed to conserving, protecting, and enriching our state’s vast wildlife and waterways. As a state with an abundance of natural resources, the NJFW spent the last 125 years fighting to preserve these resources for the next generation of New Jerseyans. This event is also co-hosted by the City of Trenton’s Department of Recreation, Natural Resources, and Culture. The department is committed to getting Trentonians outside and into the community through a variety of initiatives, including children’s sports leagues, movie nights under the stars, educational seminars, and more.
