NJ State Museum’s Small Explorers to Host “Busy Day for Birds”

The “bird” on the street is that exciting things are happening at the New Jersey State Museum! So fly down to the NJSM, because you and your little one are invited to Small Explorers: Busy Day for Birds.

On Saturday, March 11th, the New Jersey State Museum will host this month’s installment of their Small Explorers program. For March’s event, your little learners are invited to explore the beautiful world of birds. Although the morning’s sessions are full, slots are still available for the 12:15 pm session. If you’re interested in attending, RSVP as soon as possible here: Small Explorers – Register. Spots are limited, so be sure to register today! This event is designed for children five and under, but older siblings and parents are also welcome to be part of the fun.

This month, children are invited to take flight and learn more about these extraordinary aviary creatures. The morning will kick off with a reading of “Busy Day for Birds” by Lucy Cousins. This vibrant tale teaches children about an abundance of different species and invites young readers to step into a day in the life of a bird. Throughout the story, children will have the opportunity to learn more about various birds and take a peek at their unique behaviors. From soaring high in the trees to shouting cockadoodle-do, your little one is certain to be a busy bird.

Once story time has concluded, guests will be invited to explore the feathers that help birds fly. While exploring the feathers, you’ll have a chance to check out the museum’s “Written in the Rocks” exhibit. This exhibit features fascinating fossils, gripping geology, and an abundance of knowledge to unearth. After you’ve taken flight through this unique exhibit, the afternoon will conclude with instructions on how to make a felt bird. By the end of the event, you’ll have a feathered friend to take home and a new appreciation for the creatures who light up our skies.

This event is part of the New Jersey State Museum’s Small Explorers series. This exciting series invites the youngest members of our community to learn more about arts, science, and everything in between. Previously covered topics include dinosaurs, constellations, dance, and more. This fun and free playgroup allowallows young children to explore the world around them, enjoy new experiences, and spend an enjoyable morning in a group of their peers. By the seminar’s conclusion, kids will walk away equipped with new knowledge and have the opportunity to strengthen their social skills and relationships along the way. You can read more about this fantastic program by visiting the NJSM website here: NJSM – Small Explorers.
