The Old Barracks Call for Submissions from Local Artists

If you’re a Trenton artist searching for your next great opportunity, the Old Barracks needs you for an exhibit about the Capital City arts.

The Old Barracks recently announced an artist call for an upcoming month-long exhibit in April. The exhibit hopes to highlight artworks that best exemplify the City of Trenton in both a modern and historical context. The City of Trenton is brimming with beauty, both past and present, so we’re certain you’ll be able to find inspiration for your next great masterpiece! If you’d like the opportunity for your art to be displayed in this famous 18th-century landmark, the submission deadline is Friday, March 17th. To qualify for display, the submission criteria include the following:

  • All artists must live in Trenton, and works must depict Trenton in either a modern or a historical context.
  • All art must be wired to be hung by the existing railing system in gallery spaces.
  • Works must be two-dimensional (no three-dimensional work will be accepted)
  • Only individual artists (not collaborative projects) may apply

Selected works will be featured in the “Trenton Makes” gallery show, part of a fundraising campaign to support the museum and its programming. The display will be on view to the public starting on April 7th through May 14th, 2023. The people and artists’ opening reception will be held on Friday, April 7th, from 6:00-9:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the City of Trenton and have your art featured along the way, so don’t miss the chance to get involved!

Proceeds from this campaign will support the Old Barrack’s continued education and preservation efforts. The Barracks is a beloved historical landmark in the community and are best-remembered for housing troops during the Revolutionary War. When you cross through the gates of the Barracks, you are immediately transported to a vision of the 18th century. The Old Barracks hosts a variety of interpretive programs, exhibits, and preservation efforts. Every day, the Barracks educates visitors from far and wide regarding New Jersey’s history, the people who made it possible, and why this matters for people today.

Submitting your artwork for this exhibit is a beautiful opportunity to gain exposure while supporting one of Trenton’s most beloved landmarks. Submissions are due by March 17th, so if you are interested in participating, please be sure to get those selections submitted as soon as possible! If you have any questions before getting started, please get in touch with the Old Barracks at info@barracks.org or 609-396-1776. We hope you’re ready to get creative for a cause!
