New Jersey State Museum Announces Next Installment of Reemergence Artist Series

We often find ourselves grappling with the piece’s meaning when it comes to art. Art can leave you wondering and wishing you could get inside the minds of the artists to understand the meaning behind their creations. Now, the New Jersey State Museum is here to give you that opportunity, and hear directly from some of their featured artists in the “Reemergence” exhibit.

On Wednesday, February 22nd, the New Jersey State Museum will continue its Reemergence Artist Talk series. The featured artists for this installment include Megan Klim and Katrina Bello. This in-gallery discussion will begin at 12:15 pm at NJSM, 205 W State St, Trenton, NJ 08608. This is a free event, so all are welcome to participate in the conversation.

The talks are centered around the museum’s “Reemergence” exhibit, which features the art of artists and craftspeople all across the Garden State. During each session of the artist talk series, two featured artists are given a chance to discuss their work, their process, and the inspiration behind their creations. The theme of this exhibit grapples with society’s collective “reemergence” into an altered organization following the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the show grapples with complex themes like the pandemic, social and political polarization, and the collective reckoning of systemic racism throughout our society. Over 95 New Jerseyans were selected to be a part of this exhibit, and now you’ll have the chance to hear from two of these talented creatives.

The first featured artist at the upcoming event is Megan Klim, a mixed-media artist in NYC. Her art juxtaposes a variety of materials and creates a conversation between them. Some of her mediums include textured encaustic surfaces and punctured paper to grid-like structures made of cloth, wire, or thread. She has had her work featured in exhibits and museums across the east coast. You can read more about Megan Klim and her work on her website here: Megan Klim – Home.

Klim will be joined by Katrina Bello, a visual artist splitting her time between the Garden State and Metro Manila in the Philippines. Her art is inspired by the visuals and observations of natural environments she encountered during her travels and migration. Her work has been exhibited here in the states and abroad in her home country of the Philippines. She is also the founder of north willow, an informal artist-run attic exhibition space in Montclair in, New Jersey. If you’d like to explore some of Katrina’s work, you can check out her website here: Katrina Bello – Home.

You are not often able to hear directly from the artists, so all are encouraged to be a part of this fascinating conversation. If you cannot make it to this installment, the artist talk series will offer another session in March and April. Any questions before the event may be directed to the New Jersey State Museum at (609) 292-6464 or by emailing NJSM.Info@sos.nj.gov.
