Thomas Edison State University (TESU) will host its Second Annual Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m.

This virtual discussion will feature Rev. Dr. Charles Boyer, pastor of Greater Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Trenton and the co-founder Salvation and Social Justice, a non-partisan Black faith-rooted organization that believes liberation should precede legislation and prophetic vision should precede public policy. The discussion will focus on health equity, DEI issues, the pandemic’s effect on Trenton residents and MLK’s mission as it relates to the Trenton community.

The Reverend Dr. Charles Franklin Boyer is a third-generation African Methodist Episcopal preacher and was appointed pastor of Trenton’s Greater Mount Zion in June of 2021. Prior to being appointed to Greater Mount Zion, he was the pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Woodbury.

At Bethel, Rev. Boyer and his wife Rosalee, who is also a co-founder of Salvation and Social Justice, lead the church to provide thousands of hot meals, gifts, and school supplies to families in need, scholarships to graduating seniors and financial support for young mothers. The Boyers developed ministries for economic empowerment, Black maternal health, youth support, and community engagement.
