With snow piled up across the State of New Jersey, the City of Trenton is keeping its streets and residents safe from the winter cold. Mayor W. Reed Gusciora announced on Tuesday that the City was prepared for the winter storm.

The Division of Solid Waste will collect trash today, December 17 and collection will be delayed as staff clear City streets of snow. Also, Municipal Offices will open at 10 a.m. today. Essential employees should contact their supervisor for instructions.

The City recently took action and applied liquid brine on roads 24 hours prior to snow fall. The Department of Public Works arranged two dozen salt and plowing vehicles across all four wards with 3,000 tons of salt available. Backup salt and vehicles are on stand-by if be needed.

Plowing operations were issued when snowfall reached four inches. Trenton residents will continue to receive instructions from the City to move their vehicles from snow-emergency routes as required by City Ordinance 14-2.10. Parking is available at public school parking lots for the duration of the storm. For a list of designated streets, parking lots and other helpful information, visit www.trentonnj.org/snow.

Residents can sign up for the City’s Emergency Broadcast System to receive updates on both when to move their cars to the school parking lots and when to return them to the street, among other important updates. Trenton police officers also drive through neighborhoods and use their public address systems to notify residents to move their vehicles from the emergency routes. Residents who do not comply will have their vehicles towed at their expense. Residents whose vehicles are towed can contact the Trenton Police Department non-emergency telephone number at 609-989-4170. Vehicles left in public school parking lots for at least three hours after the City notification may also be towed.

In addition, the Sewer Department is ready to clear storm water catch basins and drains throughout the city as the snow melts to help mitigate flood concerns. Residents are reminded to remove trash and debris from the curb and gutter areas to help keep storm water inlets clear of clogs.

The City also began to operate a warming center at Sam Naples Community Center located at 611 Chestnut Avenue on Monday this week. Transportation is available for residents who need it at 609-989-3460. Masks are required and social distancing will be enforced. The Rescue Mission located at 98 Carroll Street is also open 24 hours a day, but can only accommodate single individuals.

The City also reminds residents to keep important numbers nearby during the storm. Tenants who have no heat and cannot reach their landlord should call (609) 989-3560 and leave a message. An inspector from the City’s Department of Inspections will return their call. Residents that need emergency assistance should dial 911. Residents that need non-emergency assistance can reach the Trenton Police Department at (609) 989-4170. Power outages should be reported to PSE&G at 1-800-436-PSEG. Downed trees, flooding and other weather-related damage should be reported to the Office of Emergency Management at 609-989-4200.
