On Thursday, November 5, 2020, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County will be hosting its annual Teen STEM conference.
From 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., students between fifth grade and ninth grade will have the opportunity to attend 17 different STEM-themed workshops and multiple panels for an immersive and engaging learning experience.
“As a leader of a pharmaceutical company and a science major at university, I strongly believe in investing time and resources into ensuring that the younger generation has the awareness of STEM and access to resources to understand the vast opportunities that are available to them,” said Carol Lynch, President of Sandoz US, who is supporting the event.
She continued, “At a corporate level, it is imperative that we support programs like this and we find opportunities to volunteer and mentor the next generation of STEM leaders. Sandoz, with the power of our Employer Resource Groups, are proud to support this event in collaboration with other area employers.”
This year, students can participate in-person at the Spruce Street Club in Lawrence, NJ or virtually over Zoom. In addition, the event will be open to the community.
Volunteers from local companies and organizations will be hosting the workshops and panels. They will discuss and teach about topics such as oceanography, robotics, health science, material science, computing and network engineering.
STEM Conference supporters Comcast, BMS, Nordson and AT&T will present along with Princeton University, TCNJ and MCCC. Students can also listen to the variety of career panels to better understand the academic and career paths of STEM professionals.
As supporters of the conference, Comcast hopes to help inspire the young individuals attending this year’s event.
“We are proud to sponsor this important event; our employees love hosting workshops and participating in the career panel — it’s enriching for them and educational for the kids,” said Kimberly Smith, Regional Director of Community Impact, Comcast Freedom Region.
She continued, “At Comcast, we recognize the importance of STEM education in preparing kids for our future workforce. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County’s annual STEM Conference allows students to hear from a diverse group of professionals, working in a variety of industries. The goal of the conference aligns with Comcast’s commitment to expand digital skills within our communities and create a diverse workplace where everyone has an opportunity to succeed.”
