Trenton’s Re-entry Office Hosts Job Fair
On Thursday, October 14, 2020, Trenton’s new Office of Returning Citizens (ORC) hosted a job fair at the Trenton City Hall Parking lot on 319 E. State Street.
On September 23 of this year, the City of Trenton announced the launch of the ORC division in hopes of helping the formerly incarcerated citizens of Trenton return to the community. Yesterday’s fair was one of many ways the city aims to reintroduce these residence to Trenton.
“All of the participating businesses are ‘second chance’ employers, meaning that they hire and work with individuals who have previous experience with the criminal justice system,” said Mayor Reed Gusciora.
Some of the businesses hiring at yesterday’s event include FedEx Ground, Amazon, The Arc. Mercer, SDB Package and Delivery, Abacus Staffing, Durham School Services, Jackie’s Dollar Vine and IH Services Incorporated.
According to the City of Trenton, six formerly incarcerated individuals already found employment through the program before the job fair and more than 60 additional applicants are currently being considered by the ORC.
The ORC has partnered with Trenton Free Public Library’s Fresh Start program, Mercer County One Stop Career Center and Avanzar to provide these new citizens with all of the substantial information and resources they need to move forward with their lives.
