Spreading Positivity Through Artwork with 2020 Sidewalk Chalk Project
Tomorrow, October 4, 2020, the Trenton Downtown Association (TDA) is celebrating Trenton’s creative community with a day of art-making and joy through their Sidewalk Chalk Project.
Between the hours of 12:00p.m. and 3:00p.m., residential artists, businesses, neighbors and friends will be making Trenton’s sidewalks, driveways, windows and doorsteps into canvases for creative expression.
“The goal is to bring some fun and joy into our lives,” said Meaghan Singletary, Development Manager at TDA. “Sidewalk chalk is an activity that anyone can do, no matter what their level of artistic ability (is), and it’s fun. It brings people together in a shared creative, community-building experience.”
TDA created The Sidewalk Chalk Project in hopes of bringing a sense of togetherness and lightheartedness to Trenton’s community. In addition, TDA is hoping the event captures the love and support Trentonians have for their city.
Singletary said, “It’s a way to show love for the spaces that have become everything to many of us: our homes, our workspaces and our schools.”
On a first-come, first-serve basis, TDA will be sharing a limited amount of supplies for those participating at designated drop points. For those interested in hosting a chalk drop point location, they are encouraged to email email@example.com.
“We are grateful for the funding we received from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, NJM Insurance and the Levitt Foundation to make this happen. As a result, TDA will be able to provide some art supplies on a limited basis,” said Singletary.
Throughout the day, TDA is encouraging those participating to use the hashtag #ChalkTrenton when sharing their chalk creation online. “We created the hashtag #ChalkTrenton so that everyone can follow along or share their own masterpieces on social media,” said Singletary.
