Students at Trenton Central High School (TCHS) will host the 3rd Annual Trenton Charity Comic Con at TCHS on June 1, 2025 from 10 AM – 4 PM

The Trenton Charity Comic Con is a philanthropic initiative run by enthusiastic students from the Comic Book & Manga Club, Volunteer Club, and Restaurant and Business Management Academy with assistance from teacher volunteers. Proceeds from the event will go to a charity selected by the students.  This year’s charity is RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network).

Over 20 guest creators and writers from around the country will work with students in the Artist Alley.  A list of creators and presenters can be found at https://trentoncharitycomiccon.com/. A few highlights are:

Tyler Boss, the writer and artist of the current hit series You’ll Do Bad Things for Image Comics, and most notably, the artist on 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank, currently being filmed with Liam Neeson.

Lloyd Briggery, an army veteran, graduate of Hampton University, and respected former instructor at the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic art, in Madison, NJ. one of the top schools in the country for comic creators.

Justina Ireland, a NY Times best-selling writer, who helped create the Star Wars: High Republic Era books and comics and is currently co-writing Amazing Spider-man.

Ben Harvey who has been doing covers this past year for Marvel on Fantastic Four, West Coast Avengers, and the current Marvel crossover mega-event One World Under Doom.

Amy Chu, an award-winning writer and graduate of Harvard, Wellesley College, and MIT, is a former instructor at the School of Visual Arts NYC and the Joe Kubert School, and has worked on everything from educational materials for non-profits to Deadpool, Poison Ivy (Batman), and is currently about to launch an Emma Frost (X-Men) series for Marvel this summer.

Soo Lee, an upcoming artist who wrote and illustrated a recent Maleficent comic based upon the Disney character, Cheetarah, in the ‘80s Thundercats cartoons.

Students from TCHS and area high schools will exhibit their work in the Student Artist Gallery and interact with guest creators and writers.

Ed Hoplock, TCHS Social Studies teacher, developed the curriculum “Graphically Speaking” for the after-school clubs and which is offered as an elective at TCHS.  Ed uses comic book and graphic novels to increase student engagement, literacy, comprehension skills, civics, and social-emotional learning.  Ed Hoplock has also presented at New York Comic Con (2022) about a variety of ways to incorporate “Comics in Classrooms” for schools and libraries.
