Henry J. Austin Health Center Expands Hours of Operation to Increase Access to Care

As part of National Public Health Week (April 7-13, 2025), Henry J. Austin Health Center (HJAHC) is proud to reaffirm its commitment to community health by expanding its hours of operation. Beginning April 2025, HJAHC will offer extended evening and Saturday hours, made possible through a $377,441 grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This expansion aims to improve access to care for Trenton residents by providing greater flexibility for patients with busy schedules.

New Expanded Hours:

Warren St. Location (321 N. Warren St.):

  • Monday – Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Ewing St. Location (112 Ewing St.):

  • Monday – Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

HJAHC will provide pediatric and adult care during these expanded hours. Both scheduled and walk-in appointments will be available for preventive care, chronic disease management, and urgent health needs.

“Expanding our hours means more than just opening our doors for longer; it means opening up opportunities for our community to get the care they need, when they need it,” said Charles L. Davis, II, CEO of Henry J. Austin Health Center. “With National Public Health Week upon us, we recognize the importance of making healthcare more accessible for all. Many of our patients face barriers to accessing care during standard business hours due to work, childcare, and transportation challenges. These extended hours will give our patients more flexibility and ensure that healthcare is available when it matters most.”

Since health centers serve patients regardless of their ability to pay, expanding operating hours is particularly important for individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, or covered by Medicaid. Many patients struggle to access care outside of traditional business hours and are often forced to rely on expensive emergency department or urgent care visits. The extended hours will allow HJAHC to provide timely access to preventive care, chronic disease management, and urgent needs, helping to improve health outcomes and reduce avoidable hospital visits.

HJAHC’s expanded hours will help increase capacity and improve convenience for working families, seniors, and individuals with complex health needs in Trenton. With the addition of evening and Saturday hours, more patients will be able to secure appointments that fit their schedules, leading to better continuity of care and improved overall health for the Trenton community.

As National Public Health Week highlights the importance of accessible and equitable healthcare, HJAHC is proud to take meaningful action by expanding its hours to better serve the Trenton community.
