NJ State Museum Announces October’s Small Explorers
On Saturday, October 12th, the New Jersey State Museum will be hosting the next installment of its “Small Explorers” series, an educational playgroup for children ages 0-5 to immerse themselves in the wide world around them. The theme for this month’s session is “Bark!”, which will center some un-tree-lievable facts about this oft-forgotten component of foliage. Throughout the morning, children will have the opportunity to learn more about the role bark plays in our ecosystem, identify its feel, color, and scent, and learn about the wide array of goods that can be made from this wonderful wood.
While the Small Explorers program is free to attend, space is limited and advanced registration is required. Families can choose from three session times, including 9:45am, 11:00am, or 12:15am. Guests can register by completing the following form: Register – BARK!. Registration requests must be received by 10:00 am the Friday before the event in order to allow time for staff to confirm space availability.
The Small Explorers program is 45 minutes long and begins promptly. When making your way into the museum, please head to the second floor’s Discovery Den, where the day’s fun will begin. If your family is planning on driving to the event, there is plenty of free parking in the Musuem’s lots, as well as on-street and garage parking located directly adjacent to the museum. The New Jersey State Museum is located in Downtown Trenton at 205 W State St, Trenton, NJ 08608.
The Small Explorers playgroup is an initiative curated by the New Jersey State Museum which encourages the museum’s youngest visitors to take a deeper dive into the world around them. From the majesty of nature to the mystery of science, this immersive, hands-on experiences encourages exploration, adventure, and discovery in blossoming minds. While the kiddos are off at play, parents attending the Small Explorers program are encouraged to connect with one another, share tips and resources, and build a network of support with other Trenton-based families. Support for the Small Explorers program is provided by the PNC Grow Up Great initiative.
