NJ State Museum Announces Day of Fun For Homeschool Families
On Friday, September 27th, the New Jersey State Museum invites homeschool students and their families to a fun-filled day of education and hands-on activities at the New Jersey State Museum, located at 205 W State St, Trenton, NJ 08608. Programming will be offered throughout the afternoon, beginning at 10am. This event is a wonderful opportunity for local homeschool families to connect with like-minded peers, forge new friendships, and connect with community. The day’s programs will feature age-appropriate offerings for students ranging anywhere from pre-K to 5th grade and above.
If you are interested in attending, please fill out the event’s registration form, linked here: Register – Homeschool Day. Please do be aware that all registrations must be received by September 22nd, so be certain to submit your information as soon as possible. The cost of registration is $10 per attendees. As a part of your registration, students will have the opportunity to two drop-in workshops running on the hour at 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, and 2 PM. The day’s workshop selections are as follows:
- Junior Paleontologist – Do you have what it takes to be a paleontologist? Explore the history of life on Earth through games and describe real fossils – some hundreds of millions of years old – by developing and honing your observation and description skills, just like real paleontologists.
- Lenape Pottery in the Archaeological Record – Learn how archaeologists trace the development of pottery through the Woodland Period. Students will examine pottery sherds and work together to piece together pieces of pottery, just like real archaeologists.
Included with registration, guests will also have the opportunity to choose from two age-appropriate Planetarium shows: “One World, One Sky” for pre-K to 2nd grade at 11 AM, and “Worlds Beyond Earth” which is for general audiences 5th grade and older at 1 PM. Following the Planetarium presentations, students can enjoy a Q&A with the NJSM’s Assistant Curator for Planetarium Education. Gallery guides will be available to prompt self-exploration in our permanent galleries, and each child will receive a craft activity to take home.
