Trenton Police Department Partners with Capital Health for the ‘We Arrive Together’ Program
The Trenton Police Department Downtown Task Force is partnering with mental health screeners from Capital Health to respond to community calls and/or follow ups. They will work together at least two days per week, depending on the needs of the community as well as the needs and availability of staff.
They will respond to :
- Live ARRIVE together community outreach calls.
- Designated areas to provide referrals to selected populations i.e., identified homeless encampments and individuals struggling with substance abuse or misuse.
- Follow up with those in the community that produce a high number of 9-1-1 calls and may need mental health linkage or resources.
The screeners will respond in their own vehicles so that the officers can provide secure transportation to community members if necessary. Mental Health screeners will provide assessments, resources, and referrals to the community. On days of the week without an ARRIVE Team on duty, all officers of the department, and the dispatchers, will note any calls for service that may require the services of the ARRIVE Team. The information on the community members that may require service will be collected by the Daytime Task Force so they can respond with the mental health screeners when the ARRIVE Team is operating. This does not mean there will be any drop in service for those needed mental health services immediately. Emergency calls will be answered and Crisis Outreach will still be performing their functions. This is an additional service to the community.
The officers received additional training from Capital Health yesterday in crisis intervention and will be attending a lengthier, more comprehensive, Crisis Intervention Team course in the near future.
