North Ward is Next Up in Trenton’s Citywide Cleanup
After an epic kickoff in the city’s South Ward, the next chapter of Trenton’s Citywide Cleanup will take place in the North Ward this Saturday, August 10th. Ahead of this week’s cleanup, representatives and leaders convened to connect with North Ward residents and let neighbors know what to expect in the coming days. At the morning’s events, guests had the opportunity to hear from a distinguished panel of speakers, including Honorable Mayor Reed Gusciora, Public Works Director, Wahab Onitiri, City Council President, Crystal Feliciano, and North Ward Councilwoman, Jennifer Williams. Speakers were also joined by Recreation Director Paul Harris, and a number of employees and representatives from the Department of Public Works, as well as the Department of Recreation.
Per Council President Crystal Feliciano, “We are serious about cleaning up our city. It’s efforts like this that remind people of what to do and what not to do.” Continuing, she shared “It starts with you at home – cleaning up around your own doorstep, encouraging your neighbors to do better, so that Trenton can look and be better. With this bulk cleanup throughout the different wards, it’s an opportunity for you all to come and put out your bulk items so that they can go ahead and pick them up. Starting a cleaner Trenton starts at home, so we hope that everyone is encouraged to do better, to be better, so that Trenton can look better.”
Councilwoman Williams offered some encouraging remarks, stating “North Ward, I want to issue a challenge – last year we have 75 tons, let’s shoot for 90 to 100 tons this year. Let’s be the ward that puts out the most garbage.” She later shared, “Please spread the word, it is so important. And as our Council President mentioned, let’s make sure we clean up the city to be a cleaner city, a healthier city, and it’s going to be a great city, as it always was. We just need to shine it up a little bit, and I look forward to seeing the results of what happens in the North Ward on Saturday.”
Discussing the heart behind this important endeavor, Mayor Gusciora noted “I think everyone has a need to live in a clean city and have a clean environment. We’re doing this for the citizens who really take care of their properties, and we’ve got to get everyone else involved to clean up the city.”
For those planning on participating in the upcoming installments of the community cleanup, please be sure that all trash is placed outside before 7am on the day of your ward’s designated pickup. For ease of all involved, however, it is recommended that any debris is put on the curb the night before. Please note that the bulk pickup is intended for items such as furniture, yard debris, etc., and items like chemicals, paint, electronics, etc. will not be accepted. In addition to bulk waste pickup, the City of Trenton will also be continuing its efforts in cleaning up our streets, parks, alleys, and other public use areas. If you see members of the Department of Public Works hard at work in your neighborhood, be sure to say thanks for all they do to keep our city clean in tip-top shape!
Residents of the East and West wards, stay tuned, as your turn is next! After this weekend’s North Ward cleanup, the remainder of the initiative will take place on the following dates and locations:
- East Ward: August 17th
- West Ward: August 24th
