Keeping our communities clean is a responsibility which rests upon all of our shoulders. From making sure our trash is taken out and properly disposed of to picking up litter that lines our street, there are plenty of ways that you can take charge and keep your neighborhood clean and green. When we all come together to take pride in our streets, the impact can be felt in every corner of town. From beautified homes to a safer environment to live, work, and play, we all stand to benefit when waste and needless clutter are no longer lingering on our streets. To help kick off the Capital City’s cleanest era yet, the City of Trenton has once again returned with 2024’s Citywide Cleanup.

On Saturday, August 3rd, the City of Trenton’s Department of Public Works successfully kicked off this year’s Citywide Cleanup in the South Ward. After a long day of tackling trash from top to bottom of the South Ward, the Department of Public Works is pleased to announce that they have successfully collected 55.89 tons of debris from the South Ward. Now that the debris has been removed, the hard-working men and women of Trenton Public Works will be making efforts to assure that this waste is properly landfilled and no longer burdening our city streets.

This program would not be possible without the guidance, dedication, and ambition of our city’s Public Works and Recreation employees, the heart and soul behind this important initiative. Additional thanks are due to the Mayor of Trenton, Reed Gusciora, members of City Council, Department of Public Works Director, Wahab Onitiri, Assistant Director, Hector Weah, and Department of Recreation Director Paul Harris, all of whom were instrumental in bringing this vision to life.

Regarding what lies ahead for the community cleanup, Mayor of Trenton Reed Gusciora noted, “Just last week on Saturday, we picked up about 60 tons of garbage and bulk waste in the South Ward, [such as] furniture and yard debris, which is now going to the landfill. This week, we’re going to be working in the North Ward. This Saturday, August 10th, please leave out old garbage, furniture, and yard waste by 7am on Saturday, or leave it out the night before, as we’ll be swinging through the North Ward to pick up the garbage.”

Department of Public Works Director Wahab Onitiri echoed this sentiment, noting “Saturday, please get out there and put your debris out. We’ve tried to keep the city clean with the Mayor – that’s his goal, and the Department works tirelessly behind me. That’s what we’re here to do, and that’s what we’re doing.”

Trenton’s North, East, and West Wards can looking forward to participating in the cleanup on the following dates:

• North Ward – August 10th
• East Ward – August 17th
• West Ward – August 24th

Please note that this cleanup is intended for bulk items like furniture and yard waste, and items like electronics, construction and home renovation debris, and the like will not be permitted.
