Lead can prove to be quite an insidious foe, hiding in far more household products than just old paint. From cookware to crayons and everything in between, making sure your home is lead-safe is a sure-fire way to help protect the health and wellness of those you hold dear. If you aren’t sure where to start in reducing the levels of lead in your home, lead testing can be a quick and effective way to assure that the items in your home are safe for every member of your family to enjoy. And now, thanks to the City of Trenton’s Department of Health and Human Services,

On Saturday, July 27th, the City of Trenton invites you and your family to take the lead in getting lead out of your homes. The upcoming lead testing event is part of the City of Trenton’s Summer Lead Awareness Series. Lead testing will be available to Capital City families from 2pm to 5pm at Unity Square Park, located at Hamilton Ave. and Chestnut Ave., Trenton, NJ 08609. Some of the eligible items families will have the opportunity to have tested includes, but is not limited to:

• Painted metal toys
• Crayons
• Clay pots
• Glazed or painted dishes
• Spices purchased outside of the United States
• Nail polish
• Children’s jewelry
• Cultural items such as Bendi and Sindoor

Testing is offered by the Trenton Bureau of Environmental Health, who has played a critical role in reducing the levels of lead exposure throughout the Capital City. When preparing what items to bring to have tested, it is of great benefit to participants to determine what items in their home pose the highest risk of lead content.
