Summer Programs at the New Jersey State Museum

Summer Programs at the New Jersey State Museum

This summer, beat the heat and head to the New Jersey State Museum for fun, free activities on weekdays, all summer long. Beginning July 5 and continuing through August 30, the Museum will offer a variety of activities for both adults and children. The complete listing of scheduled programs is available on the Museum website at statemuseum.nj.gov. Each weekday will have a different program–

  • Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm, stop at the activity cart set up in one of the galleries. Visitors of all ages can explore art, history and science with interactive games, touchable objects and simple arts and crafts.
  • Wednesdays between 1:00 and 3:00 pm, visit the Imagination Studio on the Museum’s lower level for a make-and-take craft. The crafts are suitable for all ages, offering families and individuals a fun opportunity to be creative.
  • Thursday mornings, the Museum will offer story time in the Discovery Den for our youngest (ages 6 months – 5 years) visitors. Following the story, participants can make a simple craft. This program is offered in two sessions, at 10:00 am and 11:00 am.
  • Fridays between 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm, interact with a Museum Docent to learn more about the Museum’s galleries. Tours are informal and guests can join at any time. It’s a great lunch time break, and each week will feature a different gallery.

The New Jersey State Museum is open Tuesday – Sunday, 9:00 am to 4:45 pm; closed on all State holidays. General admission is free. The New Jersey State Museum is a center for the exploration of science, history and the arts. We preserve and share stories that inspire curiosity and creativity for the enrichment of our communities. Located at 205 West State Street in Trenton, the New Jersey State Museum is the largest museum collection in the state and encompasses three buildings including a state-of-the-art Planetarium.  Established in 1895, the State Museum’s collections in Archaeology/Ethnography, Cultural History, Fine Art and Natural History contain over 2 million objects.

About the New Jersey State Museum Foundation

The New Jersey State Museum Foundation was founded in 1968 as a non-government, non-profit 501(c)(3) to support the Museum’s collections, exhibitions, programs and research through fundraising, volunteerism and advocacy. In recent years, the Foundation has received generous support from the PNC Foundation, NJM Insurance Group, Department of State/New Jersey Historical Commission, New Jersey Council for the Humanities, The Henry Luce Foundation and Princeton Area Community Foundation. The Foundation also operates the Museum membership program, as well as the Museum Shop, which sells merchandise related to the Museum’s exhibitions, collections, and New Jersey history and culture. Proceeds support the New Jersey State Museum’s collections, exhibitions and programs.
