Trenton’s Department of Recreation is Set to Begin City-Wide Park Renovations
The City of Trenton’s Department of Recreation is thrilled to announce the renovation of Orange Street Park. Located in the South Ward, this $150,000 investment will be a vibrant addition to the neighborhood. Renovations will begin in August and will include slides, swings, climbing features, seating, and landscaping.
“We are incredibly excited to begin the expansion of Orange Street Park,” said Mayor Reed Gusciora. “This project reflects our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our residents by providing accessible and engaging outdoor spaces. We look forward to seeing the community come together to enjoy all this park has to offer.”
“Since a kid I have been around this park and I have participated in so many clean ups of this park area. The people of this area on Beatty St., Jersey St. and Home Ave., have not had a place for the kids to go play and feel safe in,” said South Ward Councilwoman Jenna Figueroa Kettenburg. “So I am extremely happy, humbled, and grateful that Orange Park has been included in this rehabilitation process.”
“I’m super excited to have playground equipment installed by the city. This park has been integral to the neighborhood,” said Melissa Benford founder of International Charter School of Trenton. “It doesn’t get a lot of attention because it is so small, so to be able to bring more in is fabulous.”
During the press conference for Orange St. Park, it was also revealed that 26 City playgrounds will see minor to major repairs. This will include new playgrounds at Carlos Negron, Cooper Field, Gil Carter, Jefferson Vincent, Lipinski, Rutherford, Second Street, Unity, Villa, and Wetzel parks. New bleachers will be delivered to various basketball courts to support the City’s Summer Leagues. New scoreboards will be coming to 6/11, Babe Ruth, Cadwalader Park Softball, Capital City Sports Complex, Greg Grant, North Trenton Little League, West End Little League, and Wetzel Fields. New fencing will be added to Cadwalader, Carlos Negron, Franklin Park, Gil Carter Park, Higbee School, Lipinski Park, MLK Tee-Ball Field, Roberto Clemente, and Rutherford Avenue parks. The City will also be adding HVAC upgrades to Ellarslie, Ike Williams, North Trenton Batting Cage, Sam Naples, and West Trenton Batting Cage. To improve playground safety, we will also be delivering mulch.
“We are on the rise. The council is very supportive of the Mayor and his administration and what it is they are looking to do to help revitalize the city. I’m glad to be a part of the process to help move Trenton forward as the Mayor has said he would like to do, and with this Council he is going to do,” said City Council President Crystal Feliciano.
