Grab some gloves and a trash bag because we’re cleaning our streets!

On Friday, March 24th, community members will gather at the D&R Canal for a towpath cleanup. The cleanup will be held from 1-3 pm at the following coordinates: 40.185250, -74.746532. This event is entirely free, although advanced registration is required. If you wish to participate, registration is available here: D&R Cleanup – Eventbrite. All ages are welcome, but please note that a guardian must accompany children under 14. Environmental groups are especially encouraged to participate. If you are attending, please come prepared with a water bottle, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. All cleanup supplies will be provided to you.

During this event, you will have the opportunity to spend some time at the D&R Canal. This vast waterway spans 77 miles, connecting the cities of New Brunswick and Trenton. It got its name, the D&R Canal, as it is a connecting point between the Delaware and Raritan rivers. The trail connects seven counties, dozens of trails, and various communities to explore. Whether you’re an avid hiker or distance biker, any outdoor enthusiast will surely enjoy it. With over 160 species of birds, abundant wildlife, and delicate ecosystems, we must keep our outdoor spaces clean and green. If you want to help keep Trenton’s nature thriving, this is a great opportunity to pitch in and do your part.

This event commemorates AmeriCorps Week as a part of their Projects in the Parks initiative. AmeriCorps Week is an annual celebration centered around the millions of Americans who have chosen to serve their country through an AmeriCorps or AmeriCorps Senior assignment. Each year, AmeriCorps connects over 200,000 Americans with service opportunities in various fields, including natural disaster response, helping seniors live independently, supporting veteran and military families, and more.
