Artworks Trenton Announces Groundbreaking Exhibits for Women’s History Month
It’s officially March, meaning Women’s History Month is now upon us! To kick off this month of memorable women, Artworks Trenton has announced two inventive exhibits to help celebrate all month long.
To amplify the beauty and perspective of female artistry, Artworks Trenton will be highlighting the work of Amy Louise Lee alongside members of the Women’s Caucus for Art. These two exhibitions represent the mission of Artworks, which is “to promote artistic diversity by fostering creativity, learning, and appreciation of the arts.” From March 14th through April 15th, The Women’s Caucus for Art will be presented in the Main Gallery alongside Amy Louise Lee’s show, Metal Lucidity, in the Community Gallery. The Opening Reception for these exhibits will be held on March 18th from 6:00-8:00 pm.
The Women’s Caucus for Art will be exhibiting the work of female artists whose work presents a variety of perspectives in which to view art and the world at large. In addition, artists have shared their stories visually regarding their intersectional experiences with gender, race, identity, politics, personal matters, and more. By featuring this work, the Women’s Caucus for Art seeks to create a conversation and foster a dialogue that reverberates into the community. Ultimately, the exhibit aims to inspire creativity in its audience and get viewers thinking about their identities and futures.
In addition to the featured artwork, the exhibition participants will offer a workshop for young women at Artworks on Saturday, April 8th, from 12:30-2:30 pm. This workshop will feature a guided tour of the exhibition from curator Colleen Gahrmann and hands-on art activities. Amy Louise Lee’s exhibit, Metal Lucidity, invites audiences to immerse themselves in Lee’s luminous artwork. Her artwork is initially abstract, characterized by bright, minimalist metal artwork. However, take a deeper dive, and you will begin to recognize familiar shapes and patterns. Lee’s work invites the audience to journey toward discovery, evoking a sense of curiosity and wonder along the way. Lee seeks to foster childlike wonder in viewers and if only for a moment, lift away the burdens of adult life. As an exciting surprise, Lee has incorporated elements of Augmented Reality into her pieces for an interactive technological experience. Both of these boundary-pushing bodies of work are brought to you by Artworks, a hub for creativity in the Capital City. In addition, artworks seek to connect the community through their various educational programming, exhibitions, events, and public art initiatives. Paintings offer educational opportunities for seasoned artists and novices alike, meaning all are welcome to participate in the fun.
