Trenton Public Library to Host National Novel Writing Month Workshops
Have you ever thought about writing a novel but weren’t sure where to start?
Every November, authors young and old embark on a challenging task: write a novel within one month. According to the National Novel Writing Month guidelines, participants are encouraged to write a book of at least 50,000 words during November. While this may seem like a daunting task, the Trenton Public Library is here to help.
Through November, the Trenton Public Library will be hosting planning workshops for young adults interested in participating in NaNoWriMo. Participants will be able to learn meaningful tips and tricks to help navigate completing their novel, all while having some fun along the way. These workshops are held every week on Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m. in the young adult longue.
While writing a novel within one month may sound like a daunting task, novelists all over the country have been participating in this event since 1999. What started as a challenge has transformed into a meaningful movement to encourage literacy, writing fluency, and education. In 2006, NaNoWriMo officially became a non-profit and has gone on to help thousands of individuals make their dreams of becoming a novelist a reality.
Writing a novel transcends simply putting pen to paper. When a novel is written, it is an invitation to take a glimpse into a brand-new world. The very essence of NaNoWriMo is to capture that magic and encourage aspiring writers to find that within themselves. By offering a structured, one-month challenge, authors are given the tools to tackle this difficult task and walk out of NaNoWriMo a novelist.
This event also encourages community, with hundreds of schools, libraries, and community centers offering workshops and classes. Fellow writers (otherwise known as “wrimos”) are then able to connect, share their experiences, and learn from one another. Trenton is brimming with brilliant minds from all walks of life, so it will be exciting to see what great works come out of this year’s event.
If you are interested in participating, please visit the Trenton Public Library’s website here to see the workshop schedule. If you have any questions, please contact the library at (609) 392-7188 or through their Contact Us form.
