Capital Singers of Trenton Celebrates 15 Years with Commemorative Concert
Capital Singers of Trenton (CST) celebrates its 15th anniversary season with a commemorative concert, “Looking Back…Moving Forward,” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church, 343 S Broad St, Trenton. The concert features a blend of familiar and new pieces, including a special commissioned work by Founding Artistic Director Richard M. Loatman.
CST serves as the choral voice of the capital region under Artistic Director and Conductor Vinroy D. Brown, Jr. For this celebratory spring concert, Brown selected pieces from across CST’s 15 years of performances for the first half, including Randall Thompson’s Last Words of David, Mark Hayes’s One World, and Rhea Raymond’s arrangement of Heav’n Bound Soldier. The second half celebrates the future of the chorus and contemporary choral music with selections written within the past 15 years, including Del’Shawn Taylor’s arrangement of Be Thou My Vision, Patrick Dunnevant’s The Builder, and Eric Whitacre’s Fly to Paradise.
The concert will be highlighted by the premiere of A Peace Canticle, a new work commissioned for CST composed by Founding Artistic Director and Conductor Richard M. Loatman. Based on text from Psalm 122 and Tolstoy’s The Three Questions, the piece also includes original verses by Loatman and features the full choir, eight solo voices, narration, and piano duet.
Under the direction of Associate Conductor Ellen J. Dondero, CST’s Women’s Ensemble will offer a concert, “Light and Love,” on May 22 at 4pm at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 801 W. State St, Trenton. CST will also perform its “Spring Concert at the Shore” on June 5 at Episcopal Church of the Holy Innocents, 410 S. Atlantic Ave, Beach Haven.
CST performs a repertoire of both sacred and secular music throughout the capital region led by Artistic Director and Conductor Vinroy D. Brown, Jr. with Ellen J. Dondero, Associate Conductor, Spenser R. Gallo, Principal Accompanist, and Zackary D. Ross, Accompanist. The chorus strives to promote the art of choral singing, enrich the cultural life of New Jersey, and act as ambassadors for the City of Trenton through concerts, special performances, and community outreach.
