Trenton Reopens Public Pools Today with Kickoff Event
Mayor W. Reed Gusciora announced that the City of Trenton will open its five public pools for the summer today, June 28, 2021 with a kickoff event at Hetzel Pool.
City pools, which will be open today through Sept. 6, 2021, will operate at 100 percent capacity, but still following CDC guidelines for COVID-19. Unvaccinated residents are asked to wear masks when not in the water.
The kickoff event at Hetzel pool on 190 North Olden starts at 12:00 p.m. and will have free food.
“Last year, due to the pandemic, the pools were open at 25 percent capacity,” said Maria Richardson, Director of the Department of Recreation, Natural Resources and Culture. “This summer, we are excited to offer an enhanced aquatic program at all five pools and the spray-ground area at the newly built Hetzel Pool.”
On May 19, 2021, the Department of Recreation, Natural Resources and Culture received an “Excellence in Design” award from the N.J. Parks and Recreation Association for the Hetzel Pool and spray-ground redevelopment project.
“We’re very proud of our pools in Trenton, including Hetzel which was recently recognized for its outstanding design,” said Mayor W. Reed Gusciora. “That’s why the city and its partners worked so hard to restore this gem for the community, which can now be enjoyed by even more residents as we ease restrictions from COVID-19.”
Pools will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Senior Swim and Instructional Swim will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and Open Swim from 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
