Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler announces the opportunity to dispose of unneeded and expired prescription drugs during the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 24, 2021.

The goal is to help residents to rid their medicine cabinets of unused and easily abused opioid painkillers, in addition to any other unneeded prescription or over-the-counter medications. Mercer County residents can quickly drop off unused and expired prescription pills by bringing them to the parking lot across from the Mercer County Administration Building at 640 South Broad Street in Trenton, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

“Drug addiction or misuse can too easily begin right from your medicine chest,” said Sheriff Kemler. “After the long-isolated winter, this is a good time to gather up any unused or expired prescription pills, especially dangerous opioid painkillers.”

The disposal event will also collect vape pens and other e-cigarette devices, however only after all batteries are removed prior by the individual. Syringes, sharp instruments, liquid medications or solutions cannot be accepted. Participants in the drive-up/drop-off event must maintain proper social distancing, and health minded guidance as well.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible method for disposing of unneeded and expired pills. The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office conducts the program with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and the U.S. DEA’s assistance.
