The Salvation Army of Trenton has received a $20,000 grant for its mobile feeding program from the COVID-19 Relief & Recovery Fund of the Princeton Area Community Foundation. The grant will help aid in furthering the Trenton Salvation Army’s principles and acts of service as well as assisting the organization to increase its capacity of feeding more people.
Every Friday evening the mobile feeding program, organized by The Trenton Salvation Army, serves free, hot dinners and meals to individuals in need throughout many different Trenton neighborhoods. Aside from serving meals and dinners on the mobile canteen, the Trenton Salvation Army aids in distributing and giving out food boxes, socks, and hygiene kits to residents as well, while also encouraging these individuals to contact the Salvation Army’s local office located at 575 East State Street in Trenton.
“We are serving in response to community needs. Anyone who is hungry and needs a hot meal, is served a hot delicious meal,” said Major Elijah Kahn, Corps Officer of the Trenton Citadel Corps.
The Salvation Army, collaborating with the Trenton Rotary Club for volunteer support, has implemented social distancing as well as CDC protocols to ensure the safety and wellness of residents and volunteers. In the wake of COVID-19 and the detrimental effects it has had on families and residents within the Trenton community, The Trenton Salvation Army has been working daily to provide emergency assistance.
“The grant will ensure that The Salvation Army has the resources to meet the growing needs resulting from the pandemic,” said Bill Cleave, Chairman of The Salvation Army Trenton Advisory Board.
For more than 130 years, the Trenton Salvation Army has provided support and assistance to men, women, and children: emergency assistance, rental, utility, clothing, food, furniture, holiday, and character-building aid; all resources that ensure the wellness and well-being of deserving individuals who need it most.
“We are grateful for this generous grant in our ongoing service to continue doing the “Most Good in our community,” said Major Elijah Kahn.
The Trenton Salvation Army will continue to provide and continue its significant efforts of support and guidance throughout the Trenton community, these grants furthering its purpose.
